  1. Nov. 2Statewide collections begin.
  2. Dec. 4Statewide collections end.
  3. Dec. 11Extended collection ends in the Capital Region.

If you have a coat the kids outgrew or a new toy to spare, Poughkeepsie has a drop-off spot. The state has launched its annual holiday toy, coat and school supply drive, and donors can take items to the Eleanor Roosevelt State Office Building in Poughkeepsie.

Governor Hochul announced the drive, which supports community-based organizations that assist New Yorkers through the holiday season. We suggest dropping items off early.

“A little generosity can go a long way, and we hope New Yorkers consider donating coats, toys or school supplies to deliver some holiday cheer to their neighbors.”

Governor Hochul
  • Toys: new and unwrapped
  • Coats: new or gently used
  • School supplies: also wanted

The Wrap

Spirit Halloween stores across the Hudson Valley have closed for the season, and about half of them are turning into Spirit Christmas. New York gets five locations this year, including two in the Hudson Valley, in Newburgh and Scarsdale. Poughkeepsie had one in past years, but 2026 looks like the first year without a Dutchess County store.
