  • Scenic Hudson completed its years-long project on September 9th to transform the old Standard Manufacturing Co. factory on Parker Ave into the Northside Hub. The new headquarters features a parking lot covered with a solar array and a pollinator garden — a key part of its sustainable design.  Poughkeepsie Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino is seeking federal aid to boost EMS services with a $2 million investment that will expand ambulance coverage, recruit staff, and improve response times—this move targets workforce shortages and the EMS cost crisis ahead of the release of the 2025 executive budget.  1450 WKIP
  • On September 8, City Hall in Poughkeepsie hosted a swearing-in ceremony where four new police academy recruits—Joseph Ditizio, Nicholas Barbagallo, Corey Badger and Daniel Salamone—were welcomed along with two lateral officers from the NYPD, raising the total number of police officers to a record 87. The event also inducted firefighters James Boyles and Michael Ross amid strong family support.  Hudson Valley Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • A report from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation shows that Poughkeepsie ranked 19th among the worst cities for asthma based on factors such as emergency room visits, asthma prevalence and deaths as the report evaluated 100 large cities; other New York cities like Albany and Syracuse also scored high—raising concerns about seasonal triggers like ragweed and mold.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • Two Hudson Valley residents died from Legionnaires' disease among 37 confirmed cases in Westchester, and officials confirmed the bacteria grew in warm water systems. Doctors advise anyone with cough, fever or shortness of breath to see a healthcare provider—prompt treatment is important.  Hudson Valley Post
