  • Foam & Wash on South Road in Poughkeepsie has teamed up with MHA Dutchess Vet2Vet to raise funds for veteran programs with a Charity Towel Exchange. Owner Gary Baright said the proceeds will support housing, employment & suicide prevention services.  Mid Hudson News
  • On August 22, the Dutchess County Fair welcomed local residents with food, rides — and live entertainment at the fairgrounds. The event featured volunteer ceremonies, craft demonstrations and animal displays that highlighted community traditions.  Poughkeepsie Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • A man with gunshot wounds to his arm and leg drove himself to Montefiore St-Luke’s-Cornwall Hospital after being shot near Heritage Financial Park — Dutchess Stadium at 8:30 p.m. Saturday along 45 Pappas Lane in Wappinger, and the sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information to call 845-486-3800.  Mid Hudson News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Poughkeepsie resident Maham Rahman was accepted into the Peace Corps and will leave for Fiji on September 5 to begin training as a community economic development facilitator — the 2025 Vassar College graduate joins 177 New York volunteers in service.  Mid Hudson News
  • State Senator Rob Rolison urged Parole Board Chairman Daryl Towns to reject a proposed rule change that would lessen restrictions on violent offenders who committed crimes as minors — a change he said risks public safety. The proposal is open for public comment until October 12.  Mid Hudson News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Saturday’s Section 9 Football Media Day — hosted at Middletown High School — brought over 25 schools from Orange, Sullivan, Ulster, and Dutchess counties together for interviews with players, coaches, and reporters. Chester football coach Ryan Stover said the event provided teams with valuable exposure for the upcoming season and plans for another media day are in the works.  Mid Hudson News
