Build Our Nest: Community Build Day at the Fly The COOP Basecamp

Fly The COOP is building a home of our own, and we’d love your help.

After two wonderful years nested at Cornell Creative Art Center, we’re flying our coop. We’re so grateful to them for giving us a place to grow. Now we’re building something special at 295 Creek Locks Road in Rosendale: a basecamp designed to last through reduced grant funding. It will keep giving our teens work-based learning, job training, FREE mental health check-ins, and structured support through events and group learning.

Teens and adults are invited to work side by side to get our site ready for indoor winter use. Pick a station and dig in:

• Solar installation to power lighting, AC and heat

• Gravity-fed sink for wash-up

• Leveling our worksite trailer

• Building our staircase and deck

• Installing reclaimed sample wood floors

• Siding the trailer

• Converting our new shed into an outhouse and storage area

• Cleaning up the property for winter

Whether you’re handy with a drill or have never held one, there’s a job for you. Every board, panel and pile of brush gets us closer to a space where young people can learn, work and feel supported all year long.

What to bring

Closed-toe shoes, work clothes and layers. Bring gloves and tools if you have them.

Youth participants

Participants under 18 need permission from a guardian. A guardian must come with them when they arrive to sign a waiver form, or may stay and participate alongside them.
