- ➤ Gov. Kathy Hochul's office announced Tuesday, Dec. 23 that a $95.8 million contract was awarded to rebuild Lake Sebago Beach in Harriman State Park. The project will restore the 48 acre recreation area closed since 2011, begin in spring 2026, and finish by summer. Daily Voice
- ➤ Former publisher and civic leader Richard Wager died at home on Dec. 22, leaving a deep mark on local journalism. Calling hours are set 4-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29 at Sweet's Funeral Home with services at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. James' Episcopal Church in Hyde Park. Poughkeepsie Journal
- ➤ Assemblywoman Paula Kay (D, Rock Hill) hosted a community blood drive with Resorts World Catskills and the New York Blood Center today in Monticello. She encouraged residents to donate blood to support local hospitals and help neighbors in need. Mid Hudson News

- ➤ Fire officials in the Hudson Valley reminded residents on Christmas Eve to monitor battery charging & water Christmas trees while keeping space heaters away from flammable items after noting an increase in charger-related fire risks. News 12 Hudson Valley
- ➤ New York Attorney General Letitia James warned on Dec. 24 that federal changes mean airlines are not required to provide compensation for delayed, canceled flights, and advised travelers to file complaints if their plans are disrupted (keeping key documents is advised). Daily Voice
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The CDC said at least 64 people, including seven here, fell ill from salmonella after eating raw oysters. Officials continue investigating the outbreak, which also affected Pennsylvania and several other states. Times Union
- ➤ Putnam County recorded the state’s highest flu rate with 918 cases per 100,000 residents for the week ending Dec. 20; children accounted for over half of cases. Health officials urged caution this holiday season and are offering free vaccines to underinsured residents (call 8458081332 to schedule an appointment). Daily Voice
