EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Kathy Hochul announced that applications for the Excelsior Scholarship are open for SUNY students starting Spring. Eligible students must complete the FAFSA + TAP application to earn tuition-free college if they meet income and residency requirements.  Mid Hudson News

  • New York Attorney General Letitia James settled with Fidelis Care after her office found that the insurer wrongly charged patients for COVID-19 and HIV screenings. The settlement requires refunds, corrected claims — and system fixes to prevent future billing errors.  Mid Hudson News

  • Local runners have many 2026 marathons and 5K runs planned, such as the Millbrook Marathon on Sunday, April 12 at the Town of Washington Park and Pool (Millbrook) and events in Beacon, Dover Plains, and New Paltz. The guide provides key details to help plan training.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • Highland basketball's Michael Koehler earned last week's Poughkeepsie Journal boys athlete of the week for Dec. 8-14 with over 5,500 votes, and voting for Dec. 14-20 was open for coaches to submit game stats until it closed Sunday at 8:30 p.m.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • Marlboro basketball's Nalyah Campbell was named girls athlete of the week for Dec. 8-14 after receiving over 19,000 votes. Coaches submitted game stats (via email) before the poll closed at 8:30 p.m. Sunday for the Dec. 14-20 selection.  Poughkeepsie Journal
