- ➤ Farm Fuel Coffee has moved indoors inside Dos Amigos II in Wallkill so locals can sip drinks like Peppermint Matcha during the cold season. The mobile cart now operates Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Hudson Valley Post
- ➤ Qdoba Mexican Eats signed development deals to open nearly 90 restaurants across New York, Pennsylvania + New Jersey. The deals include 27 Hudson Valley locations with Doherty Enterprises and 25 additional stores with Cafua Management across Central and Upstate New York, with opening dates to be announced. - ➤ A Fishkill hotel helped inspire the Disney classic 'Be Our Guest' when Disney moved its Beauty and the Beast team there in 1989 after Howard Ashman, who was battling illness, could not travel. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ New York state is offering a special holiday deer hunt for bow and muzzleloader hunters in its Southern Zone from Dec. 26 through Jan. 1. The event gives school-aged hunters one more chance to fill a tag for whitetails before winter. Poughkeepsie Journal
- ➤ New Yorkers with affected Hyundai and Kia vehicles that underwent a software update may claim part of a $9 million settlement over ignition switch flaws. Claimants must file by March 31 (with necessary documentation such as VIN) to receive up to $4,500 for a total loss. Poughkeepsie Journal
- ➤ Governor Hochul supports a revised Medical Aid in Dying Act that includes extra safeguards (such as a mandatory five-day wait and multiple confirmations) and she will sign the law once the Legislature approves the new protections. Times Union
- ➤ Poughkeepsie officials announced $6.3 million in funding to boost water safety by upgrading stormwater management and replacing 5,500 lead service lines — the city will use a $906,600 LIFT grant and federal funds to move forward. Times Union
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Abby, a Catahoula leopard mix rescued from neglect in 2024, faced new abdominal and gallbladder complications after an ultrasound on Dec. 17. The Putnam County SPCA said $1,200 in care costs had been needed so far and that with $781 raised, more donations are requested. Daily Voice
- ➤ Flu cases surged in the Hudson Valley, with Westchester County reporting the highest numbers as health officials urged residents to get vaccinated and practice good hygiene. Pharmacies and doctors’ offices continued to provide flu shots + to help reduce severe illness. 1450 WKIP
- ➤ Dozens of school districts in the Hudson Valley have found lead in drinking water this year after state standards changed to 5 parts per billion in 2022, state data shows. Affected schools must shut off water outlets and provide safe water while remediation is underway. Daily Voice
