  • A tow truck driver captured a Poughkeepsie man riding his moped in flip flops during a snowstorm (around 1:45 p.m. at Main and N. White Street) on Tuesday, and the video has drawn over 23,000 views.  Hudson Valley Post
  • Drivers in the Hudson Valley have seen tire pressure warnings this week from chilly temperatures lowering air pressure — mechanics advise checking gauges to ensure safe driving.  Hudson Valley Post
  • The City of Poughkeepsie's annual Festival of Lights and Tree Lighting Ceremony took place on Dec. 5 at Waryas Park. Families enjoyed free music, roasted marshmallows plus hot chocolate and apple cider, and the night ended with a fireworks display.  Mid Hudson News
  • Voters in the mid-Hudson Valley named the ERDAJT Holiday Light Display the top local attraction with 32.61% of the vote. Started in 1995 with 600 lights + now showcasing nearly 746,000 lights, the display brightens the festive season across area counties.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • The Poughkeepsie Fire Department thanked Gavin on Tuesday for clearing a fire hydrant during the first snow storm, helping firefighters access water quickly and keeping downtown safer. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Commuters on Metro-North and LIRR will see fare increases starting Sunday, Jan. 4 due to MTA adjustments intended to support transit services in the region (monthly passes up 4.5% and one-way fares up to 8%), while subway and bus fares will also increase.  Daily Voice

HEALTH NEWS

  • Flu cases in Putnam County have increased by 71% with 59.4 cases per 100,000, almost all from type A, according to Health Department epidemiologist Alison Kaufman. Hospitalizations have not risen yet as the flu season began earlier than last year.  Mid Hudson News

  • Hudson Valley homeowners who bought during the pandemic now face a cooling market with fewer competitive offers. One Ulster County seller relisted her improved home in mid-October at $1.25 million after lowering her price from nearly $1.8 million as buyers grew more cautious amid uncertainty.  Times Union
