  • Holiday Helping Hand—a 40-year collaboration by the Journal and United Way—is now underway to help Dutchess County programs provide holiday gifts, meals and utility assistance for families in need. Donate online or mail checks to 75 Market St to support the 2025-26 campaign as contributions so far exceed $8,000.  Poughkeepsie Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Beacon (a mid-Hudson town) was ranked among New York’s top 7 craft beer communities by World Atlas. Beer lovers can explore the town's mix of boutiques, eateries and art spots that bring its vibrant local scene to life.  Poughkeepsie Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New York State is accepting applications for summer park jobs at Lake Taghkanic, hiring lifeguards and park rangers. Applicants must submit forms by December 31 (check the state park website for details).  WPDH
  • Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino was praised by AARP for recognizing National Family Caregivers Month (November) to honor caregivers who provide vital unpaid care in our community.  Mid Hudson News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Pioneers varsity basketball team opened its home schedule Wednesday night with an 87-86 overtime victory over Mahopac, led by Victor Nelson’s 33 points. Head coach Mark Bianco debuted with the team — his first home win follows a coaching change — as the crowd cheered the win in Poughkeepsie.  Mid Hudson News
