COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Holiday lights trains have been running since November 28 on Metro-North East of Hudson lines and LIRR — the trains carry festive decorations and special safety messages. They will continue on a random rotation each day and night until New Year's.  Hudson Valley Post
  • The Harlem Valley Rail Trail’s Northern Trail Extension connecting Chatham and Ghent is now complete—though the ribbon-cuting ceremony is delayed by winter weather. Further expansion will continue in 2026 with $2.5 million in funding—planned by state officials.  Hudson Valley Post

CULTURE NEWS

  • Residents and visitors in the mid-Hudson Valley can vote in a poll to pick the best holiday light display from 15 major shows in Dutchess, Ulster, Orange and Sullivan counties—voting closes Dec. 4 at 12:30 p.m. with results to be announced later.  Poughkeepsie Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hudson Valley weather experts report the first winter storm of the season will hit today, with snow starting between 6 and 10 a.m. and roads expected to become slick—making travel hazardous until the storm ends between 4 and 9 p.m.  Hudson Valley Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • Governor Kathy Hochul announced a new rule that will let New Yorkers with state-regulated insurance get a rescue and maintenance asthma inhaler with no cost — nearly two million residents, including many in the Hudson Valley, will benefit from this change.  Hudson Valley Post

  • On November 25, a mall Santa at the Poughkeepsie Galleria got his ear pierced at Banter by Piercing Pagoda in front of Smoke n Vape ahead of Black Friday—showcasing a unique style and local support.  Hudson Valley Post

  • Myles Coons, a two-way lineman for Saugerties who helped win the Sawyers their first Section 9 championship since 1993, will play at 11 a.m. this Saturday at Monroe-Woodbury High in the Section 9 Exceptional Senior Game — an all-star match with selected seniors from teams in Orange, Ulster, Sullivan, and Dutchess counties.  Mid Hudson News
