COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Veterans Day, Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino and Director of Veterans Services Adam Roche joined dozens of veterans, families and local officials at the Dutchess County War Memorial on Main Street in Poughkeepsie—braving cold, windy air to honor their service. Assemblywoman Did Barrett, State Senator Rob Rolison and keynote speaker Craig Marshall added remarks about sacrifices made and the importance of mental health support—reminding all that help is available.  Mid Hudson News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Columbia-Greene Community College in Hudson is launching a new 15-month LPN program starting in January to help meet the nurse shortage in our region—applications are open and an online info session is scheduled for tonight at 6:30 p.m.  1450 WKIP

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New York State began mailing inflation rebate checks to those who qualify—over 6 million of 8 million checks have been sent so far—and will continue mailing them until the end of November; residents waiting for their check should expect it soon.  Hudson Valley Post
  • The New York State Police have shared three important winter safety tips for Hudson Valley drivers so that if a vehicle becomes stranded, motorists should stay inside, run the engine intermittently for heat, and attach a high-visibility cloth (to signal distress).  Hudson Valley Post
  • Gov. Kathy Hochul issued a proclamation on November 11 that directed 17 state landmarks to be lit green in honor of veterans and service members as part of Operation Green Light—aimed at recognizing their sacrifices on Veterans Day.  Hudson Valley Post

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Developers plan to build Windows on Main Housing at 488 Main Street with 81 mixed-income apartments and commercial space, pending approval. The project received $700,000 from the Dutchess County Housing Trust Fund and will start with demolishing an existing laundromat—its parking analysis and further funding requests are under review.  Mid Hudson News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Hudson Valley Reapers, the only New York-based team in the Power Play Senior Hockey League, opened their 2025-2026 season with a 6 to 0 shutout win at McCann Ice Arena in Poughkeepsie—marking almost two years of work—before winning a 9 to 2 game in their second match at the Olympia Ice Center. They will face the Norfolk Mallards in Attleboro on Saturday.  Mid Hudson News
  • John Jay volleyball beat Valley Central with a four-set win—16-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-15—and will play in the regional final on Saturday, a key step in their strong season run. Coach Maria Mahoney, in her final season before retirement, said the team worked hard after a slow start to build their focus for the next match.  Poughkeepsie Journal
