  • Price Chopper and Market 32 will hold Double Exchange Day on November 16th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.—an event designed to counter the national penny shortage by doubling the value of exchanged pennies into gift cards. Customers must bring rolled or loose coins to the customer service desk and exchange between 50 cents and $100 in pennies to receive their rewards.  Hudson Valley Post
  • The former Good Bites rebranded as Valley Deli & Catering in Hopewell Junction and opened on Nov. 6 at 7:30 a.m.—offering a new breakfast menu, hot food bar and Boar’s Head deli sandwiches while keeping its popular milkshakes—and plans to serve a full catering menu with expanded hours.   • Target has started a new '10-4 Rule' in New York stores — employees greet shoppers when they are ten feet away and offer help when they come within four feet to boost in-person shopping. ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new job report showed October had one of the worst layoffs in over 20 years with 153,074 jobs cut nationwide amid the AI boom — New York WARN notices recorded significant local job losses that add to worries about the labor market.  Hudson Valley Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Hudson Valley resident reported seeing duck hunters aiming rifles from a small boat off the Hudson near a public area in Newburgh, prompting police to respond while state rules allow hunting under strict distance and licensing laws—official guidelines require hunters to stay 500 feet from dwellings when using firearms. The incident has spurred discussion as locals weigh safety against legal hunting practices.  WRRV
  • Veterans were honored on November 11 with a main ceremony at the War Memorial in Poughkeepsie that featured a wreath presentation and an address by historian Craig Marshall—other towns held similar 11 a.m. ceremonies and participated in Operation Green Light.
