  • Due to the federal shutdown, SNAP users have not received November funds so local businesses like The Bakery in New Paltz and Bluestone Roasting Company in Saugerties are offering free food—while local governments reallocate funds to support food banks and help families in need.  Hudson Valley Post
  • The Hudson Valley Young Professionals, part of the Chamber of Commerce, is hosting its annual toy drive to help local families by collecting new, unwrapped toys for The Arc Greater Hudson Valley & Youth Advocate Programs. Donations are accepted from November 14th to December 12th at several Poughkeepsie sites, including Foam & Wash Shell Express & Car Wash, Foam & Wash Car Wash & Laundromat, Arnoff Moving & Storage, S&O Construction Services & the Chamber Office, with donors receiving a free Simoniz Hot Wax & Shine car wash.  Mid Hudson News
  • CAREERS Support Solutions, a non-for-profit that helps people with disabilities find good work in Putnam, Dutchess and Westchester counties, celebrated 38 years at a gala in White Plains. The event honored staff and clients with awards, including Victoria Faley for leadership and Kate Smith for personal achievement, while a longtime employee credited the program for her job success.  Mid Hudson News

  • New York State will hold its last free fishing day on Tuesday, November 11 to honor veterans by waiving the license fee for freshwater fishing — all other fishing regulations remain in effect.  Mid Hudson News

  • Healthcare providers in the Hudson Valley observe Diabetes Awareness Month by offering education and free prevention programs. In Dutchess County, Northern Dutchess Hospital runs a free National Diabetes Prevention Program while the HealthAlliance Diabetes Education Center holds weekly self-management classes and monthly support groups in Orange and Ulster counties.  Mid Hudson News
