  • Putnam County's Sybil Ludington statue—weathered by time—will be removed soon for repairs so it shines for America’s 250th birthday next summer. County Historian Jennifer Cassidy said Michael Keropian of Kent will fix the 4000 pound bronze monument that honors her 1777 ride.  Mid Hudson News

  • Millions of New Yorkers began receiving inflation rebate checks last week with amounts ranging from $150 to $400 based on income and marital status; the checks are automatically mailed to eligible households.   • This fall in the Hudson Valley, pet owners are warned that black walnuts, acorns, and moldy leaves from trees can harm dogs that mistake these items for fun objects — local experts advise careful supervision during outdoor play.
