  • Local firehouses in the Hudson Valley are hosting fall fundraising events as communities gather for a Car, Bike, and Truck Show in Washingtonville and a Penny Social in Port Ewen today—future open houses in Brewster and a Craft Fair in Gardiner will offer more family fun and fire safety tips.  Hudson Valley Post

BUSINESS NEWS

  • IBEW Local 363 organized the workers at Optimum Cable after employees voted to unionize and celebrated by driving a bright video truck through Rockland County — a move aimed at securing fair wages and strong benefits. Local 363, which represents over 2000 workers in the Hudson Valley, has a long history of fighting for quality jobs.  Mid Hudson News

  • Poughkeepsie Journal photographer Patrick Oehler compiled top images from the past week that show a shooting response event on Main Street on October 2—a makeshift memorial for crossing guard James Montanino outside Smith Elementary on Sept. 29— a closed FDR Library sign with open grounds on October 1—a header fight during John Jay’s game on Sept. 30— paving work on Holmes Street on Sept. 29— and a leaf-covered sidewalk in Wappingers Falls on Sept. 29.  Poughkeepsie Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters from the New Hamburg Fire District were honored at a ceremony in Wappingers Falls—officials including District Chief Joe Moore and Company President John O’Brien presented awards to six career and five volunteer firefighters for milestone years of service, with Mike Szabo earning the Mentor of the Year award.  Mid Hudson News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Marist football rallied in the final 16 minutes to beat longtime rival San Diego by a score of 19 to 14 at Tenney Stadium on Saturday, improving their record to 3 to 2 overall and 1 to 1 in the Pioneer Football League + the win sets up a road game in Philadelphia on Oct. 10. The Red Foxes scored two key touchdowns late in the game as they build momentum for upcoming contests.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • Minisink Valley’s Max Wickrath led his team on Friday night by making two interceptions—one a pick-six—and catching four passes for 95 yards and a touchdown in their 42-12 win over Our Lady of Lourdes. Quarterback Robert LaBarbera added 287 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns to move the Warriors to a 5-0 record.  Mid Hudson News
