- ➤ Assemblymember Jonathan Jacobson is sponsoring a bill that stops utilities from passing grid upgrade costs to consumers when data centers and chip plants demand more energy. The bill, aimed at facilities like IBM’s Quantum Data Center near here and a new chip plant in Newburgh—ensures that companies pay for increased infrastructure needs instead of local households facing higher bills. - ➤ Judge Susan Sullivan-Bisceglia, Town Justice of LaGrange, has been named president of the New York State Magistrates Association, which represents over 3,000 justices from 1,200 local courts. - ➤ Health officials said an invasive tick called the Asian longhorned tick has been found in the Hudson Valley carrying the dangerous bacterium Ehrlichia chaffeensis. They warned that the tick (first seen in 2018) can cause serious illness if not treated promptly. Hudson Valley Post
