  • WalletHub released its study on Sept. 16 that showed New York ranked No.6 overall and led in socioeconomic diversity, which measured income and education levels. The study also analyzed all 50 states for race, language and household makeup — highlighting a wide mix of cultural factors in each state.  Daily Voice

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A state report shows leaves changing across New York, with strong color shifts in the Adirondacks and Catskills and less than 10% change expected by the weekend in Poughkeepsie—local experts say this marks an early stage in the fall season.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • Scenic Hudson’s eighth annual Aquablitz will start in Poughkeepsie on September 26 at Malcolm X Park and run until October 1 in Kingston at Kingston Point Park—giving Hudson Valley residents a chance to join environmental educators and scientists to monitor the local ecosystem.  Mid Hudson News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • IHG developers held an informational meeting in Rhinebeck Friday to reassure residents about a planned luxury retreat that will build a spa, cottages and pools on 30 acres while preserving 200 acres in its natural state. The project faces ongoing zoning and environmental challenges—officials plan to resolve issues before its planned 2028 opening.  Times Union
  • Governor Hochul announced nearly $400 million in grants will help boost state broadband—with fiber optic and fixed wireless projects reaching all unserved and underserved areas, including 390 locations in Putnam County served by Comcast. The plan also supports projects to connect areas across the Hudson Valley and beyond through coordinated efforts among eleven providers.  Mid Hudson News
  • Governor Hochul announced that New York State Police and the NYSTA seized 140 vehicles and issued over 700 tickets during three enforcement operations targeting toll violators and ghost plates. Officials said the operations recovered $71,000 of nearly $125,000 owed by 20 vehicle owners + efforts are aimed at reducing costs for local New Yorkers.  Mid Hudson News

  • Congressman Pat Ryan from NY-18 introduced the Patients Over Profits Act to break up UnitedHealth's hold on Hudson Valley healthcare—he said families like Marc Buchannan's face long delays in care after Optum took over local practices. The proposed law will force big companies to separate insurance and medical services so patients can get care faster.  Mid Hudson News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In Dutchess County, the median home listing was $579,900 in August—a 3.2% drop from July—and houses averaged 2,134 square feet at $272 per square foot. New listings rose to 328, a 34.4% increase, and homes stayed on the market for a median of 54 days.  Poughkeepsie Journal

  • Army lost to North Texas 45-38 in overtime after turning the ball over three times and falling behind 21-0 in the first half (Michie Stadium). The team will face East Carolina on Sept. 25 in an ESPN showcase game.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • Yesterday, Army football played North Texas at Michie Stadium at noon ET on CBS Sports Network — the Black Knights had a 1-1 record while North Texas entered with a 3-0 mark. The game was their first American Conference matchup of the season.  Poughkeepsie Journal
