COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Angels of Light will hold Angels of Rock at Freedom Park at 212 Skidmore Road in Pleasant Valley on Saturday, September 20th to raise funds and awareness for children and their families facing serious health challenges—featuring local musicians, food vendors, and an honor for board member Dr. Danny Perkes.  WPDH
  • Masker Orchards in Warwick welcomed over 1,000 visitors this past weekend as the apple season started in the Mid-Hudson Valley — offering ripe varieties like Prime Red and Granny Smith among tens of thousands of trees on over 200 acres. Owner Mike Martucci said guests can tailgate while enjoying fresh apple pies, cider donuts, and hard cider from local breweries.  Mid Hudson News
  • The community will honor former O’Neill High School star Jimmy Ranieri with a memorial golf outing at West Point Golf Course on Oct. 6, where check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. Players will pay $200 to enter and $40 for lunch — O’Neill High will also host a memorial soccer tournament on Oct. 1.  Mid Hudson News

  • Basilica Hudson marks 15 years as a music venue built from an old foundry and glue factory—now retrofitted for green energy—and will host the Soundscape festival on Sept 19–20 while starting weekly shows through a new deal with Bowery Presents, including a booking for Cate Le Bon on Jan 17.  Times Union

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A state comptroller's audit found that Pine Plains Central School District did not meet guidelines to test and fix lead in drinking water, with 12 of 333 outlets not properly sampled and 50 showing high lead levels during COVID (15 of these outlets were remediated). The board of education was given 90 days from mid-July to submit a written corrective action plan.  Mid Hudson News
  • John Jay High School in the Wappingers Central School District delayed dismissal on Sept. 15 due to a police matter near I-84—bus routes and after-school activities were postponed until extra officers secured the area.  Poughkeepsie Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Harmful algae blooms have been found in the Hudson River from Kingston to Norrie Point in Staatsburg — the largest bloom seen in nearly 40 years. Officials warn that people, pets and wildlife should avoid the contaminated water and report sightings to the state DEC.  1450 WKIP

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Department of Homeland Security subpoenaed voter records from Ulster, Putnam and Saratoga counties, leaving local officials alarmed + residents asking why the data was requested. The move followed a recent ICE raid + stirring concerns over privacy in Upstate New York.  Hudson Valley Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • A dangerous recall has expanded to over 30 products including soap, shampoo, lotion, sanitizer, and deodorant sold in New York—tests found some items may have bad bacteria that can cause serious infections, especially for people with weak immune systems. Health officials urge consumers with cuts or open wounds to be extra careful.  Hudson Valley Post

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • On August 28th, the Town of Lloyd Planning Board approved a plan for a mixed-use project on Route 9W — replacing an old car dealership — that will include four three-story buildings with 140 apartments, street-level commercial space, a clubhouse, a gazebo, and a dog run, plus 10% affordable housing and gated access on Roberto Drive to ease traffic concerns.  Hudson Valley Post
