  • Twenty-nine Northeast companies have been named to the 2025 Inc. 5000 list, which ranks the fastest-growing private companies based on revenue growth from 2021 to 2024. The companies generated $300 billion in 2024 revenue and include several from New York—showing strong regional performance.  Daily Voice

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress received a $50,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to study corporate housing in Mid-Hudson—focusing on Columbia, Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan and Ulster counties. The research will help local communities and policymakers see if corporate buying is increasing home costs, with initial findings shared at a housing conference on October 14 and a full report expected by year-end.  Mid Hudson News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino, New York State Senator Michelle Hinchey, and the Red Hook Central School District will host a free skilled trades fair on October 23rd from 6 to 8 p.m. at Red Hook High School’s auditorium—103 Market Street—where students and locals can learn about job options.  Mid Hudson News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • DEC has reported harmful algal blooms in the Hudson River Estuary and advised residents to avoid water showing discoloration or algal scums—researchers at the Cary Institute observed a large bloom from Kingston to Norrie Point with additional spots near Beacon, Hyde Park, Tivoli and Hudson.  Mid Hudson News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Holtec International President Kelly Trice said that Indian Point could restart if state and federal funding and political will materialize; the plant would take four years and cost about 8 to 10 billion dollars plus meet local energy needs. Assemblyman Slater and environmental groups said any reopening must address safety and water concerns along the Hudson River.  Mid Hudson News
  • New York State Senator Rob Rolison sent a letter to the MTA to reject proposed changes that would raise train fares and ticket charges for 2026—he noted that the plan includes a 4.5% fare increase and a $2 surcharge for onboard ticket purchases on the Metro-North line, which he says would burden local commuters with higher costs and fewer travel options.  Mid Hudson News
  • Congressman Pat Ryan, joined by Congressman John James and Congressman John Moolenaar, introduced a resolution that designates Patriot Week from September 11 to September 17 to honor 9/11 heroes—Ryan said his West Point experience on that day drives his commitment to remembering the sacrifice. The resolution was introduced this week to remind Americans of their unity and patriotism.  Mid Hudson News
