  • Hyde Park logger Anthony Ronasani was struck by a falling tree in Pawling on Aug. 27—firefighters and EMS crews rescued him from deep in the woods—and a GoFundMe launched on Sept. 9 is helping his family as he remains unable to work.  Daily Voice

  • Chipotle is opening its third Dutchess County location today in Arlington Square in Poughkeepsie as it takes over the former Asian Temptation site near AT&T, Starbucks & Panera Bread. The fast-casual restaurant will serve customers from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and is hiring new staff while promoting Chipotle U Rewards for college students.  Poughkeepsie Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Yesterday, Dutchess County and City of Poughkeepsie held a 9/11 memorial ceremony that featured speeches, prayers, and tributes by local leaders—including Mayor Yvonne Flowers and County Executive Sue Serino—to remember the victims of the attack 24 years ago.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • Locust Grove Estate in Poughkeepsie was once home to Samuel Morse and now offers visitors a chance to see his telegraph equipment, paintings, and the original mansion that later belonged to the Young family—famous for its peony and dahlia gardens. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Dutchess County IDA approved financial incentives for POU Development LLC to build two 40,000 square foot aircraft hangars at Hudson Valley Regional Airport in Wappinger—an effort that will boost local jobs and modernize the airport in a two-phase project starting with PFAS contamination cleanup.  1450 WKIP

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Riverkeeper launched its new Water Quality Portal—an interactive map that shows safe spots to swim and boat, drinking water quality and fish health—and the portal was funded by $250,000 in federal funds secured by Senator Schumer from data gathered at nearly 250 Hudson River watershed sites.  Mid Hudson News
  • The state expanded a drought watch to include Columbia, Greene, Dutchess, and Ulster counties due to low rainfall and groundwater levels, and residents are asked to conserve water. Governor Kathy Hochul announced the change after talking with federal and local experts — water suppliers will review their systems in the coming weeks.  1450 WKIP

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dutchess County invested $2.45M in four affordable housing projects in Poughkeepsie and Amenia that will add more than 100 rental units—some sites are already under construction as county officials work to boost local housing. The projects are funded through the Housing Trust Fund to help local workers find affordable homes.  News 12 Hudson Valley

HEALTH NEWS

  • Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown will offer free prostate cancer screenings on Sept. 25 and Sept. 26 at its Outpatient Services Building (707 East Main Street). Pre-registration is required as appointments are limited and the screening includes a digital rectal exam and a blood test to detect cancer early.  Mid Hudson News
