  • Poughkeepsie will host its first punk rock flea market at the Elks Lodge on Sept. 13 from 11am to 5pm—this event, organized by local vendor Tom Best, features over 50 vendors and artists including legendary Goosebumps illustrator Tim Jacobus and charges $5 cash or $6 credit with free admission for kids under 12.  Hudson Valley Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Netflix's Next Gen Chef is a cooking competition filmed at the Culinary Institute of America campus in Hyde Park and is set to premiere Sept. 17. The series features 21 young chefs competing for a $500,000 prize—production highlighted the school and may lead to a next season if it succeeds.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • Students from Hyde Park Central School District’s AIMHigh Empowerment Institute led a convocation to start the 2025-2026 school year by sharing leadership and teamwork skills that improved attendance and progress in Math and ELA—setting an optimistic tone for future student success. Superintendent Dr. Pedro Roman said every classroom became a launchpad for change as the program continues to build essential skills.  Mid Hudson News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dutchess County awarded $2.45M from its Housing Trust Fund to develop and preserve over 100 affordable rental units in Poughkeepsie and Amenia—projects include an 81-unit building on Main Street and a duplex designed for households earning 30% to 80% of the area median income.  Times Union
  • On Monday, Poughkeepsie welcomed six new police officers and two firefighters at a swearing-in ceremony. Two officers were lateral transfers from NYPD while four will begin training at the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Police Academy on September 15, and the firefighters (James Boyles and Michael Ross) have started a 22-week program that now brings the force to 87 officers and 53 career firefighters.  Mid Hudson News

  • Participants swam, biked and ran at Lake Mahopac to raise over $50,000 for pediatric cancer research in memory of Ty Louis Campbell+ the Ty Louis Campbell Foundation will use the funds to support research at New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center.  Mid Hudson News
  • Endico Potatoes of Mount Vernon recalled its frozen peas and carrots and mixed vegetables after tests detected Listeria monocytogenes in 2.5lb bags—lot codes 110625 and 170625—sold in New York and nearby states; shoppers should return the items for a refund as no illnesses have been reported.  Hudson Valley Post
