  • A Shell station at 2406 US-44 in Salt Point near the Taconic State Parkway is now offering Krispy Krunchy Chicken—hand-breaded Cajun-spiced fried chicken made fresh over Labor Day weekend. CRIME NEWS

  • Town resident Jakai Rivera, 26, was sentenced to five years in state prison for felony criminal possession of a weapon—he pleaded guilty in March and will serve five years of post-release supervision after being charged on November 22 with illegally carrying a semi-automatic pistol.  Mid Hudson News
  • On Saturday at 9:15 p.m. police responded to a call at a Montgomery Street apartment after finding a man with stab wounds who said he was attacked near Casablanca on Main Street—his e-bike was stolen and officers traced a blood trail from the apartment to the area before taking him to a local hospital.  Mid Hudson News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Marist University—formerly Marist College—became a university in January and was named one of the 25 Most Beautiful campuses in America by The Princeton Review in August; it now offers nearly 50 majors and has over 6,000 students.  WRRV
  • Duchess BOCES’ Career and Technical Institute has partnered with Empress Emergency Medical Services to launch an EMT program for high school juniors this month — students who complete the two-year course will be eligible to take the exam. The program addresses a growing workforce shortage and includes ride-alongs for real-world experience.  Mid Hudson News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Assemblymember Jonathan Jacobson and Senator Michelle Hinchey passed two reform bills to require utilities to explain capital expenses and use actual monthly meter readings—bills that now await the governor’s signature. The new measures aim to protect ratepayers by making rate hikes more transparent.  Mid Hudson News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Beacon won its season opener against Highland on Friday with a 28-19 score as Jah'Real Whitted recovered two fumbles—one returned 60 yards for a touchdown and another driving a 25-yard run that helped the team take the lead. Coach Gerald Ryan praised the strong defense, and Highland struggled after AJ Nugent was injured early in the game.  Mid Hudson News
