  • Costco stores in New York enforced a strict VIP hour on Sept. 2 that lets only Executive Members shop early—9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on weekdays and 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturdays—while other members must wait until 10 a.m., and they raised the Executive Membership fee from $120 to $130, leaving many shoppers upset.  Hudson Valley Post

CRIME NEWS

  • Hyde Park Police arrested a 60-year-old Queens woman at Pine Woods Spa (7 Pine Woods Road) after community members complained about illegal massage services; she is charged with felony unauthorized practice of a profession and misdemeanor prostitution and will appear in court on Sept. 4.  Times Union
  • Ila M. Janus, a 29-year-old wanted on an active bench warrant, was arrested in LaGrange on Saturday, Aug. 30 during a traffic stop on the Taconic Parkway after officers found about 72.3 grams of fentanyl and 10.8 grams of heroin in her possession—she now faces drug charges and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Sept. 23.  Daily Voice

  • The Hudson Valley is set to host a range of live music events this September as local and national acts perform in venues from Assembly Kingston to Bethel Woods—highlighted by Icelandic band múm’s performance at Hudson Hall on Sept. 20 and Tubby’s free anniversary series from Sept. 22 to 28.  Times Union

  • New York State public high schools will add three new holidays for the 2025-2026 school year—Diwali on October 20, Asian Lunar New Year on February 17, and Eid al-Adha on May 26—giving students and teachers a scheduled day off for each observance.  WPDH

  • Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino introduced Cultivating Dutchess—an online hub that will help local farmers access resources like farmland protection and county grants—at the annual Agricultural Forum held on August 20.
