  • College officials reported a bomb threat at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie on Friday morning—everyone inside or near Davidson Hall left and was told not to return until law enforcement confirmed the area is safe.  News 12 Hudson Valley
  • Seven people face charges after federal prosecutors dismantled a drug pipeline—from Mexico to the Hudson Valley—that smuggled drugs into Middletown and led to violent gang activity, including a fatal shooting in Newburgh.  Hudson Valley Post
  • Hyde Park Police arrested Zhanglian Liao, 48, of Flushing on prostitution and unauthorized practice charges after shutting down Pine Woods Spa at 7 Pine Woods Rd following community complaints on Aug. 28—she is scheduled to appear in Hyde Park Town Court on Sept. 4 at 5 p.m.  Daily Voice

  • The 34th annual Hudson Valley Hot-Air Balloon Festival began yesterday at Tymor Park in Lagrangeville and will run through Sunday—featuring balloon rides, fireworks, live music, food trucks and family activities.   • Two recent suicides occurred on the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge and a third death happened on the Walkway Over the Hudson — local officials from Rhinebeck and Ulster are urging the state Bridge Authority to add netting, protective barriers and signage — with a meeting set for Sept. 11 to discuss next steps.  Times Union

  • Marist University football won a 31-14 season opener against New Haven on Friday evening at Tenney Stadium in Poughkeesie—four turnovers, including three fumbles and one interception, helped secure the win.
