- ➤ Town officials in Pleasant Valley reported a recording device was found under a town employee's desk on August 1; Highway Superintendent John Baxter took a leave on August 4 and was arrested on August 11 on a felony charge of unlawful surveillance—he is due back in court later this month. - ➤ Forty-six-year-old Romell 'Mel' Hearn, one of seven charged in a major drug ring that supplied cocaine, fentanyl and oxycodone in Poughkeepsie, was sentenced on Monday by Dutchess County Court Judge Edward McLoughlin to 12 years for drug sales, three and a half to seven years for a gun charge and two to four years for conspiracy—sentences that will run concurrently with five years of post-release supervision.
