ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Rombout firefighter named John Lucariello collapsed at a fire on Mountain View Road today at 5:30 a.m.—he was rushed to Montefiore SLC Hospital and authorities confirmed the blaze was not suspicious.  Mid Hudson News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Target stores in New York and 19 other states have recalled the 10-count Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar cookies for potential wood contamination. The cookies were produced in Canada and distributed from a center in Connecticut.  News 12 Hudson Valley

CRIME NEWS

  • On Sunday night, police blocked Wilson Boulevard to handle a mental health crisis when a local resident armed with a knife—repeatedly threatening officers—was taken into custody at 10:30 p.m. and transported to a local hospital.  Mid Hudson News
  • A staff member at the Anderson Center for Autism in Hyde Park is accused of assaulting a resident on Aug. 2 by holding a pillow to the victim’s face, which caused bruising to the chest, arms, and shoulder—troopers arrested 22-year-old Deijeanae Edwards of Poughkeepsie and she is scheduled to appear in Hyde Park Town Court later this month.  News 12 Hudson Valley
  • On Sunday, New York State Police and State Park Police investigated a suspicious incident near the campground restrooms at Mills Norrie State Park (Norrie Point) and reported no threat to public safety as they worked to locate a baby reportedly born at the scene.  Mid Hudson News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students in Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster counties will begin the 2025-26 school year on different days in September — for example, Poughkeepsie City Schools open on Thursday, Sept. 4 while other districts start on Sept. 2 or Sept. 3.  Poughkeepsie Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The New York Public Service Commission will review Central Hudson’s proposal to raise gas bills by 3.7% and electric bills by 7.3% on Thursday — August 14 in Albany. The utility says the increases will fund system improvements including replacing old infrastructure and boosting cybersecurity amid rising energy costs.  1450 WKIP

HEALTH NEWS

  • Area health officials remind parents that children entering daycare, pre-K and kindergarten must receive required vaccines such as diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, Hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox while middle and high school students need additional vaccines like Tdap and meningococcal shots. Parents must show proof of vaccination or secure a valid medical exemption within 14 days of school start + many health plans and the Vaccines for Children program help cover these costs.  Mid Hudson News
  • Neuhaus Chocolates NV issued a voluntary recall for its Belgian Chocolate Moments Smurfs 'Popping Milk Chocolates with Cookies' sold in New York and nearby states after an internal check revealed undeclared wheat that could trigger severe allergic reactions+ only about 150 units were sold and no illnesses were reported, with consumers advised to return the product to the point of purchase.  Daily Voice
