ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On August 6, 2025, a City of Poughkeepsie firefighter sustained a laceration to his hand when a second-story window blew out at a fire on Roosevelt Avenue — assisted by Arlington and Fairview fire departments, he was treated at a local hospital for his non-life-threatening injury.  Mid Hudson News

CRIME NEWS

  • Patricia Ruth Holt, 57, was arrested in Texas on a first-degree murder charge after she shot her boss at Hutchins Trucking Yard and led police on a slow-speed chase before surrendering; her past includes a 1986 incident at Red Hook High School when she attempted to shoot her teacher and later received probation with psychiatric treatment.  1450 WKIP

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Poughkeepsie school administrators voted no confidence in Superintendent Gregory Mott on July 15, citing concerns over his restructuring plans including a new human resources role and changes to teacher evaluations. Mott said his plan supports building leadership — the district will continue discussions to address these concerns.  1450 WKIP

  • Dutchess County allocated $500K from the 2025 Municipal Investment Grant Program to upgrade eight senior centers with new bathrooms, improved HVAC, and better accessibility—County Executive Sue Serino said the updates will create safer, more welcoming spaces for older adults.  1450 WKIP
  • Firefighters and equipment displaced by Tuesday’s fire at the Hooker Avenue Station were moved to the Poughkeepsie Public Safety Building at 505 Main Street (just over a mile away) where cleanup began and a temporary mobile shelter is planned to support a return once repairs are completed.  Mid Hudson News
  • Keller Army Community Hospital at West Point is included in a federal proposal to downsize 17 military treatment facilities, which would turn the hospital into an urgent care center and force patients to seek inpatient care off-site. Lawmakers such as Rep. Pat Ryan say the plan could worsen care in an already strained Hudson Valley system—officials briefed Congress on the proposal.  Times Union

  • A Dutchess County family warns residents after Clayton Chamberlain died from Powassan virus, which he caught from a tick bite while working on a car in Wappingers Falls.
