GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents from Orange and Dutchess counties rallied on Tuesday, July 29 at Beacon Ferry Dock to protest the MTA’s decision to permanently end the Newburgh-Beacon ferry service — local officials and community members demanded that the agency reconsider and invest in repairs to keep the important transit link intact.  1450 WKIP
  • Congressman Pat Ryan’s C.A.R.E.S. Van will visit Hudson Valley communities in August, beginning at Elting Memorial Library in New Paltz on August 18th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The mobile van will help residents, including those in Poughkeepsie, access Social Security+VA services and Medicare+Medicaid amid recent federal cuts.  1450 WKIP
  • Dutchess County is offering a second round of Fly Car Grants to help local emergency services buy life-saving equipment for their vehicles. The program reimburses grants between $5,000 and $20,000 — applications are due by August 26 and awards will be announced in October.  1450 WKIP
  • Poughkeepsie has stepped up code enforcement along Main Street—city officials conduct sweeps to improve living conditions even as many buildings remain vacant. Officials say the ongoing vacancy problem highlights a broader housing challenge that they plan to address soon.  1450 WKIP
