ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials have warned residents to take precautions as wildfire smoke and extreme heat push air quality into a danger zone across the tri-state region. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the National Weather Service issued code orange alerts and a heat advisory from 11 a.m. today through 8 p.m. Tuesday to protect those in sensitive health groups — including people with heart and lung conditions.  Daily Voice

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Accused criminals in Poughkeepsie can now be arraigned during evening and weekend hours in city court as judges hold proceedings in the Common Council chambers — relying on law enforcement officers for security instead of court officers.  Mid Hudson News
