- ➤ An 11-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle on Vassar Road near Alex Way at 4 p.m. on Thursday, and she was taken by ambulance to a Poughkeepsie hospital while town police closed Vassar Road between Tom’s Way and Spring Road for investigation—witnesses are asked to call police at 845-485-3666. - ➤ An elderly woman with dementia was rescued from the rooftop of her four-story apartment building on Wednesday night when a neighbor called City 911—police and firefighters used a fire escape and bucket lift to bring her down before EMS transported her to a local hospital where family waited. - ➤ On Wednesday night, a four-car wreck on Route 9 near Clove Road in Fishkill led to a mass casualty incident—15 patients were treated with four in serious condition as first responders from Dutchess and Putnam counties extricated trapped victims and airlifted one from a landing zone at Dutchess Mall, while officials ask witnesses to call New York State Police at 845-677-7300. - ➤ On July 24th the state allocated over $5.4 million — including $653,500 for the Poughkeepsie City Police Department — to Hudson Valley law enforcement agencies for the Gun Involved Violence Elimination initiative as shooting injuries fell 15 percent and gunshot deaths dropped by seven from January through June compared to last year.
