  • Brandon Sebald, a former Rondout Valley football star who faced a $20,000 threat on his Miami gym project in 2010, now owns 56 7 Brew coffee franchises across five states—he plans to expand to 70 stores and sell them for $400 million next year.   • Twelve SUNY Orange students and two professors finished a six‐week field course that unearthed partial mastodon remains, estimated to be between 10,000 and 13,000 years old, from test units near Middletown. The team shipped bones and fragments to the New York State Museum for examination—detailed records may guide future digs.  Mid Hudson News

  • State Senator Rob Rolison posthumously awarded the New York State Liberty Medal to U.S. Navy veteran Paul Davidson — a Dutchess County native celebrated for his service in Vietnam and his local volunteer work. His family received the highest civilian honor on July 17 at an event honoring veterans in Dutchess County.  Mid Hudson News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Primark is recalling 2,600 four-packs of DTR Stitch Scented Highlighters—tests found they contain a toxic phthalate banned in children's products—and customers are urged to stop using them and return the items for a full refund.  Daily Voice
  • Eyebrow and eyelash tinting have been illegal in New York since 1994 because FDA rules deemed dyes near the eye risky—stores like Ulta have stopped offering the service. Lawmakers will soon review new guidelines that allow silver nitrate in professional-use products to update the regulation.  WRRV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ten high school baseball teams are set to be ranked for next spring’s state title + the poll from White Plains Hospital is open until 3:00 p.m. Wednesday; the rankings focus on teams returning key players from strong seasons like Fox Lane, Iona Prep and Tuckahoe.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • Starting August 29, Bard College cross country teams will run in five invitationals—including two races at Vassar and events at Bard, Lehigh and Western New England—before finishing with the Liberty League championships on November 1 at Saint Lawrence University. Former Purdue standout Brody Smith, hired in February, will lead his first cross country campaign as the teams race against other Division III programs.  Poughkeepsie Journal
