Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 18th of July.
Good morning, Poughkeepsie.
💼 Business
The family-owned Citgo station in Pleasant Valley reopened on July 16 at 5 a.m., two days ago after a 10-month closure that was extended from an expected 2-month renovation.
The delay was caused by foundation issues & permit problems, and the business now welcomes its loyal customers back.
Anthony Lepkowski has been promoted to vice president—area retail leader—at Rhinebeck Bank after serving as assistant vice president in commercial lending since 2022 and as a branch manager for five years.
He will now oversee branch performance and community engagement efforts in Southern Dutchess and Orange counties.
🚨 Crime
Glendale Wright, 19, pleaded guilty to shooting four people at a block party last year and was involved in a jail fight before sentencing, resulting in a 25-year term for attempted murder—concurrent with additional sentences for weapon possession and jail assault.
🏛️ Government
Poughkeepsie will soon begin a comprehensive sidewalk repair project to fix 1,500 issues and improve pedestrian safety.
The city will also start road work on August 19—using $2M in state funds to pave 2.6 miles and upgrade Grand Avenue for pedestrians and cyclists.
