COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Dutchess Community Carnival Rides & Food Fair is on at Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie today, offering rides and food to benefit the DCC Foundation— the fair will run through Sunday, June 22.  Hudson Valley Post
  • The Ride for Mental Health will begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. at the Ulster County Fairgrounds in New Paltz—this charity cycling event offers rides from 14 to 100 miles and will feature former Olympians Nelson Vails and Wayne Stetina to raise funds for psychiatric care and youth outreach programs. Last year, the event raised $215,000, and WKZE in Red Hook will broadcast the ride on Sunday morning.  Poughkeepsie Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrested 44-year-old Felicia Griffin after a raid on a Poughkeepsie housing complex on Wednesday, June 19th — undercover officers had previously bought drugs from her and officials found packages of cocaine, digital scales and packaging materials in her apartment.  News 12 Hudson Valley

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The New York State DEC reported a record of over 222,526 pounds of chemicals were collected in early May during its CleanSweepNY event in the Lower Hudson Valley—179 participants from counties including Dutchess and Westchester safely removed hazardous waste for proper disposal.  Hudson Valley Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Thirty Explorer Post 108 cadets completed the 2024-2025 program at an awards ceremony in Wappinger as law enforcement officials (including Sgt. Montanya and Sheriff Imperati) praised the program for preparing youth for careers in public safety, with the event marking the first joint effort by the sheriff’s office and the PBA.  Mid Hudson News
  • City courts in Beacon and Poughkeepsie now hold arraignments at other courts because the Office of Court Administration halted after-hours sessions when scheduled security officers were unavailable—this forces Poughkeepsie Police Chief Rich Wilson to send extra officers off patrol, challenging court procedures under bail reform laws. More meetings with local officials are planned to seek a solution.  Mid Hudson News
