CRIME NEWS

  • Poughkeepsie man Rohan Patrick was sentenced Tuesday in Dutchess County Court to one year in jail for a crash in Red Hook that killed 25-year-old Bard College graduate Ling Hong Nguyen last May when his car jumped the curb on Route 9 while he was speeding and drowsy.  News 12 Hudson Valley
  • New York State Police reported that a Buffalo resident, Dawn Jones-Mills (60), smuggled over 200 pills and 26 pieces of paper treated with an unknown substance into Green Haven Correctional Facility in Beekman on Saturday and was arrested, arraigned, released, and scheduled to appear in court next week.  News 12 Hudson Valley

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New York updated its consumer protection law with the FAIR Business Practices Act to target scams — including those involving artificial intelligence, deed theft, and predatory lending — and now allows the Attorney General and affected individuals to take civil action against violators. The law aims to close loopholes and protect consumers amid federal rollbacks on similar safeguards.  1450 WKIP
  • Ulster County Legislature Majority Leader Abe Uchitelle backed adding more sheriff's deputies at local BOCES schools Tuesday night to protect immigrant families from federal immigration enforcement. The legislature approved funding for three deputies in a 21—0 vote and will revisit school safety during upcoming budget talks.  Mid Hudson News
  • The Dutchess County Transportation Council opened a public comment period on its draft Transportation Improvement Program that details federally funded projects through 2030 including bridge repairs, transit upgrades and road work. Public input is welcome until Monday, June 23 at 5 p.m.—comments will be summarized and discussed at a council meeting held at 1:30 p.m. on June 25 at the Henry A.
