ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Shane Webb Munn, 50, of Goshen died on May 31 after he rushed into his burning home on Pulaski Highway to rescue his two sons, Ryan, 17, and Travis, 12, and graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 14—Walton Cemetery.  Daily Voice

CRIME NEWS

  • Between June 3 and June 10, the Dutchess County Drug Task Force arrested nine alleged drug dealers on felony charges after undercover investigations in Poughkeepsie, Hyde Park, and Beacon during Operation: Street Sweeper (targeting narcotics like fentanyl and cocaine).  Mid Hudson News
  • Poughkeepsie police shot 36 year old Bryan Czornyj during a 911 call after he refused to drop his samurai sword at a home on Fair Oaks Drive on June 5—an investigation by the New York Attorney General's Office is ongoing.  1450 WKIP

ECONOMY NEWS

  • ALDI is lowering prices on more than 400 items in all stores this summer until Labor Day— a move expected to save shoppers about $100 million. The discount chain also plans to open 225 new stores this year after similar savings last summer.  Poughkeepsie Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New York State Police have started Speed Week—using both marked and unmarked vehicles to target speeding and aggressive drivers until Sunday, June 15. The crackdown comes as officials point to speeding as a major factor in fatal crashes and also includes enforcement of laws like the Move Over rule.  Hudson Valley Post
  • Poughkeepsie is accepting project proposals for its Downtown Revitalization Initiative — a program with $10 million in funding to upgrade the city center — and proposals must be submitted by July 21.
