- ➤ Friends of the Walkway is hosting Poughkeepsie's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular from the Walkway Over the Hudson, where the 212-foot-high bridge will open for ticket holders at 6 p.m. and fireworks will launch between 9+9:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for members, seniors and veterans, $25 for general admission, and free for children 12 and under. - ➤ On Friday at 2 p.m., a man jumped from the Ulster County side of the Mid-Hudson Bridge and was rescued from the Hudson by Lloyd Police and Poughkeepsie firefighters who launched a jet boat from Shadows Marina—he became combative with rescuers before calming and being taken by ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation. - ➤ A $3.6 million project will continue resurfacing Route 52 from the Route 311 intersection in Lake Carmel to the Putnam-Dutchess County line. The first phase, completed last summer from Fowler Avenue to Route 311, involved repaving and repairs to storm water catch basins—improvements that will enhance road safety and traffic flow. - ➤ On Thursday, forty immigrants from countries such as Portugal, Brazil, and Mozambique were sworn in as U.S. citizens at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds—with family members and community leaders present.
