  • Today, the Putnam County SPCA launched SaferWatch—an app that lets residents report animal cruelty and upload photos or tips directly to law enforcement. The app will speed up investigations and help protect animals.  Hudson Valley Post

  • Ben's Fresh in Port Jervis dropped its new burger, The New York State of Prime, in the New York Beef Council competition and finished second by just three points. The restaurant said it sold more burgers than ever during the 30-day contest — a sign of strong local support.  Hudson Valley Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office recently held a five-day drone training for Hudson Valley law enforcement agencies, including Poughkeepsie Police Department, where officers practiced FAA rules, emergency procedures and legal protocols—only pilots with FAA Part 107 certification attended.  Mid Hudson News
  • The City of Poughkeepsie will host a public planning meeting on Monday, June 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Common Council Chambers to discuss the $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative — residents can offer comments and learn about a Strategic Investment Plan for projects in housing, transportation, and public improvements.  1450 WKIP

  • Dutchess County animal health officials and Hudson Valley Animal Rescue and Sanctuary will hold a free rabies vaccination clinic at 9 Barnes Drive in Poughkeepsie on May 31—county residents get shots at no cost while non-residents pay $15 per pet and pre-registration is required.  Hudson Valley Post
  • Dutchess County Health Department is hosting a rabies vaccination clinic at Hudson Valley Animal Rescue in Poughkeepsie on May 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. County residents receive free shots while non-residents pay $15 per pet (dogs, cats, and ferrets aged three months and older) and must pre-register online.  1450 WKIP
  • Albertsons Companies recalled three store-made deli items sold in New York today due to possible Salmonella contamination from cucumbers supplied by Bedner Growers in Florida—26 illnesses have been reported nationwide including nine hospitalizations—consumers should return or dispose of the products.  Hudson Valley Post
