COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Adam Roche led officials, veterans, and community members Monday at the Dutchess County War Memorial on Main Street to honor fallen soldiers from the Revolutionary War to modern times. Town Supervisor Rebecca Edwards said the event reminded everyone that grief and respect are part of the community’s ongoing history.  Mid Hudson News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Adams Fairacre Farms — a local family-run store in Poughkeepsie since 1919 — was added to the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry this week. The store now operates five locations serving Hudson Valley residents.  Hudson Valley Post
  • LongHorn Steakhouse is set to convert an abandoned TGI Friday’s building on Route 9 into its first Dutchess County restaurant. The project, submitted by RARE Hospitality International, Inc., is under review by the Town Board and features updated landscaping + new to-go parking spaces for local diners once approved.  WRRV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • New York is set to expand universal Pre-K and childcare after Gov. Hochul and officials approved a 2027 budget that boosts funding to $4.5 billion, which will support up to 100,000 additional children and cap weekly childcare costs at $15. The changes will take effect starting with the 2028–29 school year.  WPDH
  • Extreme heat forecasts in the Hudson Valley show temperatures reaching 96 degrees on Tuesday. A new state law signed by Governor Hochul requires schools to cool classrooms at 82 degrees and relocate students at 88 degrees, putting some schools at risk of closing or sending students home.  WPDH

  • NYSDOT announced that Coach USA will take over the Hudson Link bus service from Transdev during the weekend of June 27-28, connecting Rockland & Westchester counties via the Mario Cuomo Bridge; riders should expect minor schedule adjustments during the transition.  Mid Hudson News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Hudson Valley resident in national quarantine celebrated day 4 milestones by working out on a stationary bike + opening his blinds after media cameras were removed. His exercise and moment of relief brought a bit of optimism during isolation.  WPDH

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Local businessman Jim Sullivan was awarded $1.5 million in state funding to redevelop the former Dutchess County Board of Elections building and the adjacent property at Cannon Street in Poughkeepsie — his six-story mixed-use project will include underground parking, commercial space and apartments. SPORTS NEWS

  • The New York Knicks swept the Cavaliers on Monday, May 25, winning Game 4 130-93 to advance to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999. The team rode an 11-game win streak in the Eastern Conference playoffs to secure its spot in the Finals.  Poughkeepsie Journal
