  • At around 10:30 a.m. today, the crew on the Mid-Hudson Bridge raised a large American flag for Memorial Day, briefly stopping traffic in both directions. The team completed the flag raising in about five minutes—showing clear expertise on this important holiday.  WPDH

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Earlier this week, the Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center released two bears back into the wild after they recovered from being underweight and starving over the winter — one bear, found near Hunter Mountain Ski Slopes, quickly turned to look back — and the female bear, known as the Margaretville Bear, is now set to live on her own in the Catskills.  WPDH

  • The local post office is sending out holographic postcards to warn residents about aggressive pets and to advise keeping dogs indoors or on a leash during mail deliveries—this follows 5,800 reported pet bite cases in 2023 and comes ahead of National Dog Bite Awareness Week, June 2nd—9th.  Hudson Valley Post
  • Retired state police Sergeant Michael E. Snell, 56, died on Tuesday, May 20 from a 9/11-linked illness he developed after working at Ground Zero. He served 23 years, retired on May 24, 2023, and is survived by his wife, Tammy, and their four children while funeral arrangements will be announced.  Daily Voice
