- ➤ After a hung jury on May 9, one defendant in a Poughkeepsie murder trial pleaded guilty to assault plus a gun charge, receiving a total of 10 years in prison with an added five years of post-release supervision while the other defendant moves toward retrial set for May 28. Mid Hudson News

- ➤ Cora Massaro, an eighth grader from C.J. Hooker Middle School in Goshen, will represent the mid-Hudson Valley as speller 143 in the 97th Scripps National Spelling Bee at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor from May 27 to May 29—she is one of 12 New York competitors. - ➤ During Law Enforcement Week, the Fraternal Order of Police held a memorial service at the nine eleven memorial outside the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office to honor fallen officers. FOP President Mike Hendryk unveiled three bricks—one for Detective John Falcone with his father present and two for retired officer Dave Bennett and patrolman Louie Juncosa—while relatives attended the ceremony as Taps was played. - ➤ Dutchess County has expanded its Owner-Occupied Property Rehabilitation Program to help more homeowners in Poughkeepsie access up to $40,000 for essential repairs that meet safety, health and code standards — County Executive Sue Serino said the change aims to preserve housing and prevent uninhabitable conditions. - ➤ The Hudson Common Council approved a resolution supporting the Rent Emergency Stabilization for Tenants Act to help cap rising rents and also urged state lawmakers to pass the NY for All Act to protect immigrant communities—Hudson is the fifth city to pass such a resolution after Poughkeepsie, Kingston, Newburgh and Albany.
