  • Poughkeepsie locals can mark Memorial Day with the Walkway Over the Hudson Mayfest at Waryas Park Sunday, May 24, featuring nearly 200 vendors, food trucks, and local breweries with free shuttles, plus a memorial ceremony at 7:30 p.m. along the scenic waterfront.  Hudson Valley Post

BUSINESS NEWS

  • LongHorn Steakhouse is planning its first Dutchess County location in the former TGI Friday’s building on Route 9 in the Poughkeepsie Plaza. The proposal, filed by RARE Hospitality, is under review by the Town Planning Board and will offer a new local dining option if approved.  WPDH

CULTURE NEWS

  • Visitors are exploring the Walkway Over the Hudson, a 1.28-mile former railroad bridge turned state park today to enjoy views high above the river — originally built in 1889 — with guided tours and a 21-story glass elevator enhancing the historic experience.  News 12 Hudson Valley

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dutchess Community College’s Fishkill campus received a $3 million grant from New York State for expansion on May 20 — officials, administrators, and students gathered at the ceremony.  Poughkeepsie Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New York wildlife officials reported that hunters bagged 227,032 white-tailed deer during the 2025–26 season, with more mature than yearling bucks taken for the first time in modern history — a shift credited to selective hunting and rising crossbow use. SPORTS NEWS

  • On Wednesday, Ethan Rodriguez beat Allen Yi 7 to 5, 4 to 6 and 6 to 3 at Match Point Tennis in Goshen to win the OCIAA title (he credited his focus and strength as Yi cramping early in the third set). He will face Yi again next week.  Mid Hudson News
  • Highland Lacrosse' Justin Caballero and TJ Riley detailed the Huskies' 15-1 record and plans for postseason play during an extended interview. The team is preparing for another deep playoff run.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • Fourteen schools earned spots in the Section 9 girls lacrosse tournament set to begin play on May 26 with finals at Monroe-Woodbury on May 29. Top seeds in each class will meet as the competition builds local excitement.  Poughkeepsie Journal
