  • AAA warns that gridlock traffic is expected for Memorial Day weekend as record travel surges from Thursday, May 21 through Memorial Day Monday (May 25).  WPDH

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Q29 Productions has opened a new production studio on Route 9 in Hyde Park to help local creators film, record, and edit content. The building features three fully equipped studios with professional lighting and sound and is available for rent now.  Hudson Valley Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • SUNY Orange student Olena-Yuliia Nakonechna from Monroe has been named a 2026 World Impact Scholar and awarded a $2,500 scholarship + she maintained a 4.0 GPA while balancing work as a dental assistant and raising her young son.  Mid Hudson News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Leapfrog Group released its spring patient safety grades for New York hospitals. In the Hudson Valley, eight hospitals earned a D grade (a 92% higher risk of avoidable deaths) while 40 hospitals received a perfect A.  WPDH
  • Hudson Valley Animal Rescue Sanctuary in Rhinebeck will host a free rabies clinic on Saturday, May 30 from noon until 4 p.m. at Third Lutheran Evangelical Church at 31 Livingston Street, also offering microchipping for $45 per pet with pre-registration required.  Hudson Valley Post
  • Three New Yorkers will be placed in a 42-day quarantine starting Monday at a Nebraska facility after being exposed to hantavirus aboard the MV Hondius, state officials said (Gov. Hochul stressed there is no immediate public risk).  WPDH

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tyler Adams and Nike hosted the Hometown Heroes soccer event at Pulaski Park on Saturday, where newly repainted mini-pitches featuring art by FUTURA2000 were rededicated for local youth. The event featured a coed 4-on-4 tournament for players ages 13 to 15 + a remote video message from Adams.  Mid Hudson News
  • At Warwick Valley High School on May 15-16, the OCIAA girls track and field championships saw Cornwall win with 163.5 points. Standout athletes such as Ella Michelitch—clearing 6-0.5—and Madison Riccardi, who won four titles, boosted the team as schools from across the area competed for top honors.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • Warwick hosted the OCIAA boys track and field championships on May 15-16, 2026, where its team won with 157 points. Washingtonville’s Kenixander Vermenton broke the pentathlon record (3,328 points) as athletes from Pine Bush and Monroe-Woodbury also competed.  Poughkeepsie Journal
