  • Today, Beacon Volunteer Ambulance Corps hosts EMS Community Safety and Education Day at Beacon Elks Lodge from noon to 4 p.m. — county legislators earlier proclaimed EMS Week to honor local EMS professionals, and the event will include safety education and an ice bucket challenge with local agencies.  Mid Hudson News
  • Community Action Partnership for Dutchess County named Dr. Linda Haas Manley as its new chief executive officer—she will begin on Monday, May 19—after longtime leader Elizabeth Spira retires following 14 years at CAPDC.   • A house fire broke out on May 16 at 5:15 a.m. on Mountain View Avenue in Hyde Park and firefighters worked to control the heavy flames in an early 1900s home—one firefighter was taken to the hospital for evaluation and later released.  News 12 Hudson Valley

  • The New York State Council of the Arts awarded over $7 million in grants to 30 local arts organizations to update facilities and improve accessibility—projects include ADA upgrades at Shaker Heritage Meeting House and major construction at Luzerne Music Center. Grant amounts ranged from $25,000 to $1.8 million as part of an $86 million statewide capital project program announced yesterday.  Times Union
  • Bill Duke, a celebrated actor and director known as 'the Godfather of African American Cinema,' was honored yesterday in Poughkeepsie when Fallkill Avenue was renamed Bill Duke Way near his childhood home.
