CRIME NEWS

  • Two men, Christopher Cortez age 46 and Eric Espinosa age 36, were arrested after a burglary at a home on Pershing Avenue on Tuesday morning—officers later caught them on Main Street and recovered all stolen property.  News 12 Hudson Valley

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Central Hudson’s new rate plan will raise most customers’ electric bills by about 4.2% and gas bills by 5.2% while lowering rates by 4.2% for those in the Home Energy Assistance Program — the three-year agreement aims to balance essential investments with more affordable costs.  News 12 Hudson Valley
  • State and federal leaders criticized Central Hudson for planning to raise electric and gas rates over three years, saying the hikes hurt customers & boost company profits. The Public Service Commission will decide on the proposal this fall while officials also explore a publicly owned utility option.  1450 WKIP

  • County Executive Sue Serino announced on May 14th that Dutchess County will award $250,000 in grants to 14 youth-serving organizations through the YOU Drop-In Center Grant Program—helping them build safe spaces and support programs for young people across the county.  Hudson Valley Post
  • Hudson 7 held its monthly meeting Wednesday in Poughkeepsie with renewed focus on protecting the Hudson River as a source of drinking water — the council reestablished contact with the U.S. Coast Guard to plan an upper river spill response drill and reviewed reports on PFAS, wastewater concerns, and a diesel spill while planning a public celebration on May 29 to honor local water operators and present its Drinking Water Source Protection Plan under state review.  Mid Hudson News
  • Governor Kathy Hochul opposes National Grid's planned rate hikes—electric rates would increase by 20% and natural gas rates by 27% over three years, costing households about $600 more annually.   • State Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson has urged the Public Service Commission to reject a three-year rate hike plan from Central Hudson Gas+Electric that will raise electric bills by 3.12% and gas bills by 5.19% in the first year and even higher amounts later; he said the plan offers a high return on equity for shareholders rather than real benefits for customers.  Mid Hudson News

  • The FDA issued a nationwide recall of Knockro Inc.’s Bonya-branded yogurt parfaits sold in New York after detecting an undeclared almond that can cause a life-threatening reaction.
