CULTURE NEWS

  • Hudson Valley casting call invites kids ages 6-16 to take non-speaking roles in a Netflix thriller set in a 1970s summer camp; filming is scheduled for this summer in Newburgh, Tuxedo Park, Harriman State Park (Southfields), and Forestburgh.  Hudson Valley Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Voters in the school district will head to the polls on May 19 to elect three board members and decide on a proposed $156,908,757 budget (a 4.21% tax rise). Five candidates are running, including incumbent Jamar Cummings.  Mid Hudson News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New York State has spent over $400 million to fight harmful algal blooms in the Hudson River and launched a $2.5 million research grant program through the Environmental Conservation Department to protect drinking water, habitat, and local economies + support research on reducing phosphorus and nitrogen pollution.  Hudson Valley Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Mid-Hudson Bridge turned blue on May 10 for National Police Week, honoring fallen officers and those serving today. Governor Kathy Hochul ordered the tribute, joining 15 other landmarks in a statewide display.  WPDH

HEALTH NEWS

  • Two Hudson Valley residents are among three New Yorkers taken to Offutt Air Force Base on Monday, May 11 for a 42-day monitoring period after possible hantavirus exposure aboard the MV Hondius. Officials stress there is no immediate risk to the public.  Daily Voice

SPORTS NEWS

  • Fourteen local girls basketball players were named to large-school all-state teams as selected by the New York State Sportswriters Association yesterday — including Roy C. Ketcham’s senior guard Ally Kaminsky and Marlboro’s junior guard Nalyah Campbell — while small school honors will be announced later.  Poughkeepsie Journal
