  • Poughkeepsie firefighters and retirees gathered with the Gunther family at the Main Street Public Safety Building on Monday to honor fallen firefighter Timothy 'Timbo' Gunther, who died on May 5 after a Church Street fire in 2015. Zeus Brewing unveiled a special IPA named PK’s Bravest with proceeds donated to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation - marking the annual tribute to a local hero.  Mid Hudson News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • New York schools will ban smartphones for K-12 classes in the 2025-2026 school year as announced by Governor Kathy Hochul to create distraction‑free learning environments. Schools will receive over $13 million to design their plans and allow exemptions for students needing internet access for medical or educational reasons—parents can still contact students during the day.  1450 WKIP

  • The city announced that public pool entry fees will be reinstated this summer—children under two will swim free, ages three to 17 will pay one dollar, and adults will pay two dollars—while season passes are available at $35 for youth and $70 for adults with registration coming online soon.  1450 WKIP
