  • Blue reflectors (raised pavement markers) indicate underground water locations and mark fire hydrants to help first responders; drivers are advised not to park close by.  Hudson Valley Post
  • Skydive the Ranch in Gardiner will host the 10th annual Leap for Autism event on May 2 (10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.). The skydiving event will raise funds and awareness for local autism support services provided by Greystone Programs.  Hudson Valley Post

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rolling Stone magazine has announced a boutique festival, Stateside, a Fourth of July on the Hudson, featuring Noah Kahan at Hutton Brickyards in Kingston on Saturday the 4th. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10 a.m., and part of each sale will support Kahan's BusyHead Project nonprofit.  Hudson Valley Post
  • Local art lovers can shop for unique gifts from over 65 artists at the Spring Dutchess Handmade Pop-Up Shop starting tomorrow through June 12 at 696 Dutchess Turnpike. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Junior Aarna Patel from Newburgh Free Academy won the 2025 Congressional App Challenge for her app Hudson Connect, which helps locals find food assistance and community programs. The award-winning app (to be showcased in the U.S. Capitol) has garnered praise from Congressman Pat Ryan for its real impact.  Hudson Valley Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City of Poughkeepsie and the Housing Authority are searching for a qualified development partner to transform Northside housing—turning key areas into a mixed-income neighborhood with improved community services. Developers must submit proposals by May 29, with HUD reviewing a detailed plan this fall.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • Officer Michael Barbagallo retired from the Poughkeepsie Police Department on Monday, April 27 after more than 30 years of service, leaving a legacy of community outreach (including Cocoa with a Cop visits) that connected residents.   • Health officials report tick season is off to its fastest start in over a decade as warmer winters boost tick survival and increase Lyme disease risk. Residents are urged to check themselves and pets regularly — a simple way to reduce exposure.  Hudson Valley Post
  • The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall for about 50,000 FitRx SmartBell adjustable dumbbells sold at Walmart after 115 injury reports of broken toes, bruises, contusions, and lacerations, and advised customers to cease use and contact New York-based Tzumi Electronics for a free replacement (model 8361).  Hudson Valley Post
