  • A Poughkeepsie woman has been indicted on felony charges including vehicular manslaughter for passing a car in a no-passing zone and striking a tree in an October crash in New Paltz that killed her 4‑month‑old daughter—she was arrested in Dutchess County and is held in Ulster County jail pending arraignment.  Poughkeepsie Journal

  • Local comedian Jason McLaren from Newburgh went viral on TikTok with his parody 'Hudson Valley State of Mind' that humorously names local landmarks (like Poughkeepsie) as he reflects on his life in the region. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gov. Hochul announced a plan to ban cellphones in public schools for all school hours next school year if approved — lawmakers will vote on the $254 billion state budget later this week, and the ban would align New York with eight other states restricting student cellphone use.  News 12 Hudson Valley

  • Data from the New York State Department of Health shows that tick bites are more common in parts of the Hudson Valley, Upstate New York and other regions.   • Vassar-Warner Home in Poughkeepsie will reopen in June 2025 as Vassar-Warner Home for the Day after nearly closing in 2024 to offer a social day program for seniors; the nonprofit will serve elderly clients at daily and hourly rates.
