ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A mother and her children narrowly escaped injury when two manholes exploded on Academy Street in Poughkeepsie at 1:30 p.m. on April 19, forcing street closures and a block evacuation while fire crews ventilated nearby buildings + utility officials managed the scene.  Daily Voice
  • A manhole explosion in Poughkeepsie nearly injured a child and a person pushing a baby in a stroller as nearby buildings were evacuated for high carbon monoxide levels — it was one of three incidents over the weekend with no injuries reported while officials continued investigating the cause.  News 12 Hudson Valley

  • Dutchess County police say Sarah Paradie-Williams went missing on April 20 after she was last seen at 3:30 p.m. near Camelot Road in Poughkeepsie—officials urge anyone with information to call Town of Poughkeepsie Police at 845-485-3666.  Daily Voice
  • On April 18 around 6:45 p.m., Poughkeepsie police took 68-year-old Lorgio Hernandez-Quevedo into custody after he allegedly poured gasoline on an apartment building—he now faces charges of attempted arson, reckless endangerment, attempted criminal mischief, and burglary.  Daily Voice

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials in Dutchess County warned residents that road work on North Quaker Hill Road in Pawling will disrupt travel in the Hudson Valley through the end of 2025. The project will replace culverts, widen the road, and add safety features — motorists should follow posted detours along major routes.  Hudson Valley Post
  • On April 21, Attorney General Letitia James announced that Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie and HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston face sweeping changes after an investigation found psychiatric patients were discharged without proper stabilization—these measures include reopening 40 inpatient psychiatric beds, revising emergency room procedures and imposing a $400,000 penalty with additional fines for non-compliance.  Daily Voice
