COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region will host its third Annual Pull the Tank event at Thomas Bull Memorial Park in Orange County on June 14th. Teams will pull a 120,000 lbs (including flatbed) WWII Veteran Combat Sherman Tank to support local veterans, and pre-registration is required along with family activities like a DJ, ice cream truck and children’s game area.  Mid Hudson News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A woman and two children narrowly escaped injury when the Academy Street sidewalk exploded at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, sending concrete slabs and debris flying (firefighters and police arrived within three minutes) and Central Hudson workers isolated the gas line so repairs will begin Monday (the family reported no injuries).  Mid Hudson News

CRIME NEWS

  • East Fishkill police responded to a burglary in Hopewell Junction on Railroad Avenue on Thursday at 7:44 p.m., arresting 40-year-old Gregory Chiaccha, who remains in jail on a $50,000 bond, and 39-year-old Casey Cassell, who was released after posting bail — while a police K9 located the stolen property.  Mid Hudson News
  • After 22 years and a mistrial declared on April 16, prosecutors plan to retry Edward Holley for the 2003 murder of Megan McDonald — her body was found in a field off Bowser Road and her car later discovered near an apartment complex.  Poughkeepsie Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ulster County Executive’s Office said a new report from Beyond Plastics estimates that New Yorkers could save $1.3 billion over a decade if the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act is adopted. County Executive Jen Metzger said the bill is needed to cut plastic waste, boost recycling rates and ease the solid waste crisis + protect public health from risks linked to microplastics.  Mid Hudson News
  • The Dutchess County Department of Public Works announced that work will begin on April 28th to replace two culverts and improve safety on North Quaker Hill Road in Pawling (between Byrd’s Hill Road and the Connecticut border). The project will widen the road with added shoulders and new guiderails while a detour is posted along New York State Route 22/55, Connecticut Route 55, Gaylordsville Road and Tabor Road (local driveway access will be maintained) until the work is finished by the end of 2025.  Mid Hudson News

  • This week at Beacon’s Sun River Health facility, Congressman Pat Ryan and health officials celebrated the start of construction on a $2 million expansion—planned to extend hours, add a six-room urgent care center, two primary care rooms, and extra space for behavioral health and patient navigation—to boost local health care access.  Mid Hudson News
